Julia qualified as a chartered physiotherapist in 1980.

Since 1985, she has been a Category A member of the Association of Chartered Physiotherapists in Animal Therapy (ACPAT). This is a specialist group of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy where Category A members are recognised by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons to lawfully treat animals.
